Friday Reads
For the week ending March 17, 2023
So far this month, I’ve had Covid, my living room flooded, and I’ve got jury duty next week. Beware the Ides of March indeed.
Thankfully, I’ve had good books to read when reality gets soggy.
Robert B. Parker’s Jesse Stone — Continuing my read/re-read of all the Jesse Stone books. I’ve moved into the later books written by authors after Parker’s death.
Jenny Zero by Brockton McKinney, Dave Dwonch, and Magenta King — This turned out to be a fun graphic novel about the daughter of Japan’s greatest superhero, who spends her time drinking and partying instead of fighting giant monsters.
Danger Street by Tom King and Jorge Fornes — This is rapidly becoming my favorite monthly comic. It takes a bunch of Z-listers from a 70s anthology title and wraps them all together in one all-encompassing mystery. King has turned the Green Team, a group of boy billionaires, into a truly sinister little group. Sort of like The Omen but the kids have black AmEx cards. Fornes’ art is, as always, devastating in the key moments.
I mean, look at this:
Terrifying. Perfect.
I tried to get into Malcolm Harris’ Palo Alto: A History of California, Capitalism, and the World, but that was too ambitious with the amount of cold medicine swirling around in my bloodstream. I am also still working my way through The Three-Body Problem and a couple other things, including The Immortality Thief by Taran Hunt, which was recommended by a reader. So thank you, Alexandra Geraets.
Please tell me what you’re reading in the comments. Always looking for ideas.
Thank you for reading Farnsworth Radio. This post is public so feel free to share it.
